She might be the third, she might be the fourth, no one has really counted, but Mary (Hannah) is certainly true to the independent spirit of the Marys before her. As a freshman in high school, Hannah was not enthused about missing the first few weeks of school for a family trip to Europe. It was going to mean lots of wine tasting, wine touring, wine talking – boring! But, when the four roaming Millers arrived in Alsace something changed. Hannah discovered the incredible white wines of Domaine Albert MANN and, at 13 years old, Hannah acquired her first wines.
After earning her B.A. in Chemistry at the University of Puget Sound, Hannah went to work at 12th & Maple Wine Company for a harvest transitioning away from her academic world. She enjoyed working with the chemistry of wine, so she continued her cellar adventures at Vavsour – Foley Family Wines in Blenheim, New Zealand, at Anne Amie Vineyards in Oregon, and at Yering Station in Yarra Glen, Australia. In 2015, Hannah presented her sister, Anneka, with some unclaimed Müller-Thurgau and convinced her to make a small lot from it just for fun. The III Mary label was created for this micro cuvée and all future experimental cuvées.
